I’d rather write than    do just about anything except play with my grandchildren.

If you are not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.                                 -- Quote attributed to lots of people.

I became a writer the day someone told me I had something important to say. It wasn't because I knew about subjects and predicates or how to diagram a sentence. It was because someone read what I wrote and told me it spoke to them. So I write—educational books, novels, short stories, articles, letters to the editor, blog posts.

Whether I am on the front lines of a protest in New York City, quietly working on education reform with courageous educators, speaking out against injustice, helping future teachers find their voice, or writing fiction, one thing always rings true. I tell the truth as I see it.

"There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why... I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?"
